4th Grade

In 4th grade, we've been studying Op Art (A.K.A. Optical illusions). We looked at many examples of optical illusions in class then, began drawing our own. We are using repeating lines and value to make our drawings look like they are 3D even though they are really flat. We are looking forward adding the color to our drawings next week. Here is an example of one optical illusion you can try right now! Simply stare at the white dot in the middle of the flag for approximately 30 seconds. Then, move your eyes down to the black dot below...

Did you see it? We learned that complementary colors (colors opposite each other on the color wheel) help to make this illusion work. Orange is the complement of blue and green is the complement of red, so when your eyes look at the dot below you see a flash of the American flag- the complement of the flag above! Cool, right?!
