Meet Mrs. Compton

This photo was taken on my trip to Claude Monet's house in Giverny, France.  Claude Monet was an impressionist artist who loved to make paintings of his garden and lily pond.  His house and garden still exist and are open to the public today.  My students learn about Claude Monet and his garden as second graders.

When I was in first grade, I was asked to write about what I wanted to be when I grew up.  I wrote: "I want to be an artist or a teacher."  I grew up and discovered that I can be both!  Being an elementary art teacher is my passion.  I love that I get to have art class everyday and share my passions with the students at Pleasant Crossing.

This is my 10th year as the art teacher at Pleasant Crossing.  One of the things I love most about being an elementary art teacher is that I get the opportunity to teach my students from Kindergarten through 5th grade- six whole years.  I love getting to watch my students grow as people and as artists.  My students make my job a truly rewarding and exciting adventure every single year.

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from Ball State University in the spring of 2009.  I now live in Indianapolis with my husband, Tim, who is also an artist, Chuck the cat, and Denver the dog.  When I'm not at school, I like  traveling around the world, gardening, crafting, riding my bike, reading, baking, visiting art museums, and spending time with my family.
