Let's Play a Game!
A NEW APPROACH TO FORMAL ASSESSMENT IN THE ART ROOM
My name is Emily, by my favorite people call me Mrs. Compton (or Mrs. Art Class). I'm in my 11th year of teaching elementary art. I use games and manipulatives to assess art skills in my classrooms. Here you will find examples of the games that I use and how I use them.
I've presented these games as assessments at several local, state and national conventions. I also had the amazing opportunity to talk with Nic Hahn on the Everyday Art Room Podcast. I hope to share with other art teachers how these games build positive teacher/student relationships, allow students to take ownership of their art learning, allow for artistic freedom in the classroom, and are fun, quick, authentic, and accessible for students with special needs.
I would love to help you start using games as assessments in your classroom. Take a look around, but if you don't find the the answers to your questions feel free to contact me!
